Getting your SNHD health card in Las Vegas

In Las Vegas the card is a 20-question test at a Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD) office: 70% to pass, $25 for a first card, good for three years (as of October 2026). Nothing from a national course replaces it, the Professional Food Handler (PFH) course sold by the National Environmental Health Association (NEHA) included.

What the SNHD card is

SNHD calls it the Food Handler Safety Training Card. Around town it's the health card. First-timers book an appointment and test in person at an SNHD office with valid ID. A photo is taken, and once you pass and pay, the card is issued on the spot (SNHD food handler safety program, as of October 2026). Book early; first-timers don't get walk-in testing.

It's SNHD's test, so a certificate from a national course, PFH or ServSafe Food Handler or any other, doesn't stand in for it. A course or our practice can get the food safety into your head before test day. The card still comes from SNHD.

Fees are below. To compare them with other places, see what a food handler card costs. Other states' rules: food handler card requirements by state.

Health card odds and ends

Can I renew my SNHD health card online?

Sometimes. Cardholders may be eligible to renew online at every other renewal, checked with the previous card number and expiration date. Online renewals get a printable certificate (SNHD, as of October 2026).

Is there an SNHD practice test?

SNHD's test is its own, and we don't have its questions. Our free food handler practice test covers the basics a food handler test is built around: temperatures, handwashing, sick-worker rules.

How much is a Las Vegas food handlers card?

$25 for the first card with the test included, or $40 to renew a card that expired within the last two years (SNHD).

I searched Clark County food handlers card and got Washington. Which is it?

Two different Clark Counties. Clark County, Nevada, home of Las Vegas, is SNHD territory. Clark County, Washington follows Washington's statewide card; see the Washington food worker card.
